On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Faculty of Social Sciences at Khatam Al-Nabieen University(PBUH) held a scientific seminar titled “Sharing Research Results of the Faculty of Social Sciences” in the university’s lecture hall.
This academic meeting was attended by a wide range of professors and students, with the goal of promoting a research culture, creating scientific synergy among faculty members, and strengthening the link between theory and practice in the field of social sciences.
At the beginning of the program, Dr. Syed Mohammad Dawood Alavi, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, presented his research results titled “Critique and Evaluation of the Theory of the Quran’s Adaptation from the Torah and the Gospel from a Theological-Philosophical Perspective.”
Dr. Alavi explained the historical background of this theory among Orientalists and Western thinkers, stating that the suspicion of the Quran’s adaptation from Jewish and Christian texts is one of the oldest challenges faced by the Holy Quran. He clarified that this research employs an analytical-critical method and utilizes historical and interpretative sources to demonstrate that the existing similarities are not due to adaptation but rather the result of a unified source of divine revelation and the continuity of God’s message in heavenly religions. He added that the Quran is not a repetition of the Torah and Gospel but rather a correction and completion of them, possessing linguistic, content-related, and stylistic characteristics that no other human or religious book matches at that level.
Following this, Professor Ruhollah Sadeqi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the second speaker of the seminar, presented his research article titled “The Educational System of Afghanistan during the Reign of Zahir Shah.” He initially provided a historical overview of the educational system during Zahir Shah’s era and stated that at that time, the country’s educational system entered a phase of modernization and organization.
Professor Sadeqi explained that Zahir Shah’s educational reforms led to the establishment of secondary and higher schools in both urban centers and provinces, resulting in an increase in the number of students. However, according to Professor Sadeqi, challenges such as teaching in a non-native language and a shortage of qualified teachers were significant barriers to sustainable progress during that period. He added that revisiting the historical experience of Afghanistan’s educational system could provide valuable lessons for today’s policymakers and also offered several constructive suggestions for improving the state of education in Afghanistan.
In the final part of the program, Dr. Ali Reza Naseri, the Cultural Director of Khatam Al-Nabieen University (PBUH), shared the findings of his research titled “Pathology of Scientific Interpretation of the Quran with a Focus on the Method of Ayatollah Mohseni (RA)” with the attendees. In the introduction to his remarks, he regarded Ayatollah Mohseni (RA) as one of the prominent scientific and intellectual figures of contemporary Afghanistan, highlighting three important characteristics of him: being knowledgeable about his time, deep thinking, and scientific humility, which he identified as the keys to his success in the fields of ijtihad and research. Dr. Naseri further elaborated on the concept of scientific interpretation and its significance in bridging religion and empirical knowledge. He emphasized that while this approach can lead to a new understanding of Quranic verses, excessive application or failure to adhere to interpretive principles may result in imposing scientific theories onto the text of the Quran. He described Ayatollah Mohseni’s (RA) interpretive method as an example of methodological moderation, where neither science is overlooked nor is the sacred text placed against scientific hypotheses.
At the end of the program, attendees raised questions regarding research methodologies, the credibility of sources, and the results of each study, creating a vibrant atmosphere for scientific dialogue between professors and students. Participants expressed their satisfaction with such meetings and emphasized the necessity of continuing similar scientific programs to strengthen the spirit of research, critical thinking, and enhance the academic standing of Khatam Al-Nabieen University (PBUH).
